It appears I'm not the only one who has run into problems with them either.

If you plan on sending emails to customers, for software licenses or whatever plan on at least half of them being blocked by spam software because midphase allows spammers to user their servers.

On December 31, 2006 midPhase suspended my account without warning.

Hello.

We had to suspend the account spyderx.com due to high CPU and RAM usage.
Currently the website is using about 4% of CPU and 52.76% of RAM.
Our limits are 10% only.
Unfortunately we can't afford to host so large account on a shared server it
affects other accounts.
I strongly recommend you to consider upgrade to a dedicated or VPS server or
limit your downloads.

More information for a VPS or dedicated servers you can find on the following
pages:

Thank you.

Nowhere on their site or any email they sent me did it say anything about CPU and RAM limits. Primarily the limitation is in bandwidth, and considering I was nowhere near my limit in bandwidth or could ever be this appears to be a scheme to get customers to upgrade to more expensive hosting. Especially since there is no way to actually monitor your CPU or RAM usage yourself.

When I learned the site was down I contacted support and told them I'd try to tweak some settings to reduce usage. They re-enabled my account and I made some changes which drastically reduced the bandwidth.

On January 3, 2007 midPhase again disabled my account without warning or explanation by changing DNS for spyderx.com to point to a bogus address, and I still haven't heard any explanation for why they made this change.

Trying to cancel an account with them is a real fun red tape process. You have to fill out some cancellation form which says it could take about 2 weeks to complete. My account was set up in hours I don't see why it can't be deactivated within a few hours or at least the next day. No refund for unused services either...

If you plan on needing use of a compiler better get your own box to cross compile on because their development environments are about as broken as it gets (and I had the Developer Package add on). If you're using MySQL you can make new databases, but don't ever expect to be able to connect to it because midPhase support doesn't know how to fix that problem.

I'm a bit confused as how I can use MySQL from the command line, or php. What is
the server address, and what should my login be? I've tried with and without my
password too...

spydlin9@esc87 [~]# mysqlshow
mysqlshow: Access denied for user 'spydlin9'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

THanks.

Umm, don't you know what my username is already?, and my mommy told me to never give strangers my password. I sent it to him anyways hoping to get this problem fixed.

Wow, thanks for helping... Why would you need my password anyways, aren't you an administrator?
